Week Ahead – Jan 12th
The second full week of the year will continue to feature key economic releases for major economies and the start of the earnings season for the largest US banks. The US will release its inflation rate, which has gained scrutiny as stubborn price growth has led to an increasingly divided Federal Reserve. Other US releases include retail sales, producer prices, home sales, and trade terms. An eventful week for European releases will include GDP updates from the Germany and the UK, in addition to industrial production and trade balance aggregates from the Eurozone. In China, trade data will update investors on the impact of increasing protectionism from economic partners and slow efforts to ease manufacturing capacity, while credit aggregates will also be featured. Meanwhile, Japan will post its current account and machinery orders. Elsewhere, the Bank of Korea will decide on its policy rate, while inflation rates are due from India and Russia.
