Trump Weighs Cooking Oil Trade Cut Over China’s Soybean Snub
President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that the U.S. is considering ending certain trade ties with China, specifically involving cooking oil, in response to what he called economic hostility toward American farmers. In a Truth Social post, Trump accused Beijing of deliberately reducing soybean purchases from the U.S., stating: “I believe that China purposefully not buying our Soybeans, and causing difficulty for our Soybean Farmers, is an Economically Hostile Act.” He added, “We are considering terminating business with China having to do with Cooking Oil, and other elements of Trade, as retribution.” China, the world’s largest soybean buyer, has recently shifted its sourcing to Brazil and Argentina amid ongoing tariff tensions. Trump views this move as a negotiation tactic and warned that the U.S. could retaliate more forcefully.
