The S&P/NZX 50 finished at 13,548 on Wednesday, largely flat on the final session of the year. Thin trading ahead of the New Year kept the market subdued with limited activity. Although, the index declined modestly in earlier trading after tracking overnight Wall Street losses. Across the bourse, key sectors delivered a mixed performance, with energy and consumer durables sectors leading the gains, while technology and industrial operations weighed on the index. Fisher & Paykel Healthcare (+0.27%), Meridian Energy (+0.90), Auckland International Airport (+0.60%), and Fonterra Co-operative Group (+0.51%) posted notable gains, while Infratil (-2.38%), Contact Energy (-0.43%), MainFreight (-0.23%), and EBOS Group (-0.47%) largely offset the gains. Separately, Mercury NZ, Genesis Energy, and Precinct Property NZ remained unchanged for the session.
