Baltic Dry Index Extends Slide Into 6th Day

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, was down for a sixth consecutive session on Monday, dropping about 1.7% to its lowest since July last year at 1,659 points, amid decreases across the board. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, declined for the 13th straight day, falling 2.5% to a six-month low of 2,574 points; and the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, went down 0.4% to 1,340 points, halting a seven-day rally. Among smaller vessels, the supramax index shed 7 points at 960 points.
